Gov. Shapiro’s permitting reforms are not enough

Gov. Josh Shapiro brags about making Pennsylvania “open for business” and “competitive as hell.” He recently tweeted, “We’ve cut red tape, slashed wait times, and sped up permitting processes to ensure government moves at the speed of business.” 

Not so fast, Governor Shapiro; the numbers suggest otherwise. 

Nearly a year ago, Shapiro launched PAyback, a money-back guarantee for the timely processing of permits, licenses, and certifications, promising increased “transparency and accountability in the application process and giving Pennsylvanians the certainty they need to be successful.”
