In response to the commenter on my last post here are some numbers on federal income tax receipts: for 2000 and 2004 from the Tax Foundation and 2006 Estimates from the Tax Policy Center (Brookings and Urban Institute). And yes, the rich pay a higher proportion of the individual income tax than their share of income, while the bottom 40% get money back on their income tax returns.
