Private investment—not subsidies—will empower Pennsylvania’s nuclear energy

Three Mile Island (TMI), the site of the infamous 1979 non-lethal reactor incident, may soon see new life—thanks to private investment.

On the fifth anniversary of TMI’s closure, Constellation Energy and Microsoft announced a partnership to bring the plant back online. Per the 20-year agreement, Constellation will refire the plant’s undamaged reactor, which closed in 2019, and sell energy directly to Microsoft. The tech giant, in turn, will power its growing artificial intelligence needs with reliable nuclear energy.
