The One Big Beautiful Bill Should Show Pennsylvania How to Get Stuff Done

Entering the second months of Pennsylvania’s state budget impasse, Gov. Josh Shapiro and his political machine are desperate to deflect mounting scrutiny. The reconciliation legislation—dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB)—prevents a massive tax hike that would have hit Pennsylvania taxpayers next year to the tune of $2,500 per taxpayer. The OBBB addresses waste and abuse to welfare programs, while encouraging work—preserving Medicaid for the truly needy—and expands educational choice for K-12 students.

Love it or hate it, the OBBB could be a case study for negotiating legislative priorities. If only the same thing could be said of Pennsylvania’s state budget.
