Dues-Funded Politics: Why We Need Paycheck Protection
Pennsylvania’s government union leaders are political heavyweights. As we documented in our recent analysis, their political spending far surpasses industry competitors—and relies on membership dues or PAC contributions deducted from workers' paychecks using public resources.
A majority of government union political spending—$55 million since 2007—was spent on “political activities & lobbying.” These funds can be used to endorse candidates, fund SuperPACs, air radio and TV ads, lobbying expenditures, get out the vote efforts, and PAC fundraising.
