Shapiro Talks Affordability, but Pennsylvanians Pay the Price

Gov. Josh Shapiro has made a habit of criticizing President Donald Trump over rising prices and “affordability.” Yet under Shapiro’s leadership, life in Pennsylvania has become more expensive as a direct result of his policies.

Inflation remains a real burden for families across the commonwealth. In the Philadelphia metro area, consumer prices have risen 11.5 percent since Shapiro took office—nearly 3 points above the national inflation rate. That means higher grocery bills, higher rents, and higher utility payments for working families.

Adjusting for inflation, average weekly wages for Pennsylvania workers are 1.8 percent lower—an annualized loss of $282 in buying power for the average worker. Pennsylvania workers are poorer since Shapiro took office.
