Rep. Metcalfe on the Liberty Index
Rep. Daryl Metcalfe: Metcalfe tops Liberty Index for second year in a row.
HARRISBURG — Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) is again the highest-ranking Pennsylvania lawmaker on the 2006 The Liberty Index, and one of only eight lawmakers to earn an A grade. This second-annual, mid-term “legislative report card” was released on Monday by The Commonwealth Foundation.
Metcalfe’s A grade and score of 93.23 on a scale of 100 earned him the ranking of number one out of Pennsylvania’s combined 254 state lawmakers which include the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the Pennsylvania Senate and the Governor. In all, a total of 52 lawmakers received A, B or C grades for voting to “expand” liberty, while 124 lawmakers, including the governor, received an F grade for voting to “contract” liberty.
“Our nation’s founders invested a great amount of their lives laying the foundation of our government, which included a system of checks and balances to protect the liberty of their generation and those to come,” said Metcalfe. “As we enact legislation, we must focus on implementing initiatives based firmly on the founding principles of our state constitution: liberty, virtue and independence. What Pennsylvania needs now is even more voices of liberty committed to protecting the individual freedoms of Pennsylvania taxpayers, our families, and our economy from larger, more intrusive government.”
