Last week, Gov. Josh Shapiro offered remarks to a conference, condemning all forms of political violence—everything from the assassination of Charlie Kirk to the past failed attempts on the lives of President Donald Trump and the arson attack against himself. Overall, Shapiro gave a great speech.
Moreover, Shapiro hit the mark in giving a strong defense of free speech. He rightly stated that the tool to combat speech isn’t violence—it’s more speech.
He also encouraged his audience to choose their words carefully. Shapiro rightly called out the “rhetoric of rage,” which “only creates more division and makes it harder to heal.”
