Unions Shun Democracy

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the country’s largest public sector unions, recently scored a big “win.” Following one of Pennsylvania’s largest union elections ever, SEIU secured exclusive representation of the Penn State faculty.

In its statement celebrating the vote, the union said, “We are committed to being truly representative, democratic, and inclusive of all faculty in our bargaining unit.” What the union avoided saying, however, is that most faculty either did not vote or voted against joining the union.

Not exactly “representative, democratic, and inclusive,” if you ask me.
