Pennsylvania Stopped Costly Energy Taxes. But Government Mandates are Still Driving Up Electricity Bills.

Pennsylvania families, already struggling to afford the rising cost of living, avoided even more expensive utility bills with the recently passed state budget.

When Gov. Josh Shapiro signed the budget into law, he admitted defeat to his Lightning Plan. The “plan”—an unsettling mixture of carbon taxes and heavy-handed mandates—would have saddled Pennsylvanians with more than $150 billion in new energy costs over the next decade. That’s enough to double the average household’s electricity bill.

Fortunately, Shapiro’s expensive proposal never gained traction legislatively, so it wasn’t even on the table during budget negotiations.
