Election Integrity Is Essential to Restoring Faith in Our Republic

There is an existential crisis unfolding in American civic life, and it isn’t about who wins or loses any particular election. It’s about whether we as Americans still believe the system that decides those outcomes is fair.

Only half of Americans believe our elections are fair and open. When barely half the country isn’t sure the referee is calling the game straight, the legitimacy of self-government and our constitutional republic are at stake.

Fair and free elections are the hallmark of the self-government that makes our constitutional republic thrive and prosper. Recall that 250 years ago our Founding Fathers staked everything on the idea that ordinary people could govern themselves. And if we want to preserve our constitutional republic and American exceptionalism for another 250 years and beyond, restoring that trust is no longer optional—it’s essential.
