Simple Tuition Solutions

  • Simple Tuition Solutions (STS) processed scholarship applications for students attending 130 different private schools in 2023–24.
    • The median tuition charge, of the 106 schools with tuition rates provided by STS, is $5,598 annually.
    • The median average family contribution for these schools (all students) is $4,000.
    • The average EITC/OSTC scholarship amount awarded was $2,442.
  • In comparison, public schools in Pennsylvania spent an average of $21,985 per student in the 2022–23 school year.
  • The tuition and average family contribution for students, as seen above, demonstrate that these private schools educate students at a fraction of the cost of public schools.
  • Almost all these schools have tuition of less than $10,000. More than half report average family contributions of less than $5,000 per student.[1]
  • Of the few schools with tuition above $10,000, several exclusively serve students with special needs.

ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA

  • The Archdiocese of Philadelphia (AOP) serves the five-county Philadelphia region—Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties. AOP provides EITC and OSTC scholarships to an economically and racially diverse student body in both their K–8 and 9–12 schools.
  • There are 102 K–8 schools, 15 schools for grades 9–12, with an additional three schools serving special needs students ages 5 to 21.
  • Tuition rates in the Archdiocese K–8 schools range from $3,100 to $8,655 annually.
    • The median cost of tuition is $5,275.
    • On average, 47 percent of tuition is covered by EITC scholarships for students who qualify and receive scholarships.
  • AOP scholarship students in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties came from families with average incomes well below the county medians. Students who receive EITC scholarships reside within families with lower median incomes than their peers.
